PURPOSE:To reduce the load of a data corrector and at the same time to improve the working efficiency for input of characters by providing plural comparators, etc. to ensure automatic correction of an error input character with reference to the contents of a record different from the record to which the error input character belongs. CONSTITUTION:A data input sheet 1 is read by an optical character reader 2, and this record is stored in an auxiliary memory 4 via memory circuits 31, 32 and 3n. The 1st comparator 5 detects the presence of the close record groups in the circuits 31-3n. In the second fields of these record groups, the 2nd comparator 6 detects the resemblance that can be corrected. A character selection circuit 7 decides how these characters to which the resemblance can be permitted are corrected integratedly to other characters. A character replacement circuit 8 uses those characters decided by the circuit 7 to correct the corresponding similar characters for the 2nd field. After such correction, only the confirmation is required for a manual operation. This reduces the load of a data corrector and the working efficiency is improved.
