PURPOSE:To make the transfer speed of a steel material changeable without changing the dipping time thereof in the stage of winding the long sized steel material on the dipping rolls in a pickling tank and transferring the material by moving vertically the dipping rolls according to need. CONSTITUTION:Dipping rolls 8a, 8b, 9a, 8b are normally lowered as shown by a chain line and are held low in their position to increase the dipping length of a steel material 1 so that the transfer speed thereof is increased and that the treating efficiency in pickling tanks 6, 7 is improved. All the rolls 8a, 8b, 9a, 9b are risen to the desired height in a solid line position to decrease the dipping length of the material 1 in the stage of welding the material 1 or a trouble arises. The transfer speed of the material 1 is at the same time decreased to maintain the dipping time at a prescribed time according to the decreased dipping length. The moving speed of a loop car is correspondingly decreased and the moving distance of the loop car is shortened.
