A method of and a sensor for quantitative electroanalytical determination of elemental hydrogen in a fluid medium are disclosed. A membrane enclosed amperometric cell (10) is used that has at least two electrodes (14, 18) in contact with an aqueous electrolyte (19) to provide a reaction impedance of the cell (10); the electrolyte is separated from the fluid by a membrane (12) that is permeable to elemental hydrogen but substantially impermeable to the electrolyte and provides a membrane impedance of the cell (10); the electrodes (14, 18) include an anodic hydrogen sensing electrode (18) and a cathodic counter electrode (14); the sensing electrode (18) has a polished surface (180) consisting of a platinum metal; further, the membrane (12) is selected such that the membrane impedance exceeds the reaction impedance sufficiently to provide for membrane-controlled operation of the cell (10)
|
