PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material of surface active agent, solvent, etc. and an intermediate of muscone, etc., in high yield, and to separate and recover the compound from the reaction mixture in high efficiency, by reacting a long-chain dicarboxylic acid chloride with a Grignard reagent in the presence of a cuprous salt. CONSTITUTION:The long-chain diketone of formula II (R is 1-4C alkyl) (e.g. n- hexadecanedione-2,15) is prepared by reacting the long-chain dicarboxylic acid chloride of formula I (n is 8-16) (e.g. tetradecanedioyl chloride) with a Grignard reagent (e.g. methyl magnesium bromide) in the presence of a cuprous salt (e.g. cuprous chloride) preferably using ethyl acetate or tetrahydrofuran (especially ethyl acetate) as the reaction solvent. USE:Raw material of alkanediol useful as a surface active agent and solvent, and an intermediate of a macrocyclic compound represented by muscone. |
