PURPOSE:To synthesize high-quality and tough BN of cubic system with sharp edge from BN of hexagonal system, by using LiMBN2 (M is alkaline earth metal) as a catalyst and a specific amount of Si or a Si-containing substance based on BN of hexagonal system as an additional matter. CONSTITUTION:Powder of BN of hexagonal system is blended with powder of LiMBN2 (M; alkaline earth metal) as a catalyst and 0.01-1.0wt% powder of Si or Si-containing substance based on BN of hexagonal system as an additional matter. Powder of the mixture or molded article obtained by compressing the powder is packed into a well-known high-pressure reactor, and kept at given conditions to synthesize BN of cubic system. By this process, particles of touch BN of cubic system which are polygonal euhedral granules close to sphere and have sharp edges can be synthesized.
