PURPOSE:To obtain a clear purified FeSO4 solution only by recovering the supernatant liquid without requiring filtration, etc., by adding an alkali to an aqueous solution of FeSO4 containing impurities, until the FeSO4 is partially decomposed and deposited, adding a flocculant thereto, and settling precipitates. CONSTITUTION:An alkali, e.g. NaOH, is added to an aqueous solution of FeSO4 containing impurities, e.g. an aqueous solution of FeSO4 formed as a by-product in producing titanium oxide, etc. until the FeSO4 is partially decomposed and deposited. A flocculant, e.g. polyacrylamide, is then added to the solution. Thus, settling of precipitates formed by neutralizing and decomposing titanium materials, etc. and part of FeSO4 in the solution is completed in a short time. Therefore, the separation of the precipitates by filtration, etc. is not necessary, and a clear purified solution can be recovered only by recovering the resultant supernatant liquid.
