FUEL TANK DEVICE OF AUTOMOBILE

PURPOSE:To contrive protection of a fuel tank and effective use of an installation space, by a method wherein a side member of a motor car to be obtained by forming a car compartment part into monocoque structure is formed into a hollow state and the fuel tank is housed in the inside of the front edge. CONSTITUTION:A car chamber part 1b extending from the front of a car body having a front fender 1c to the rear is formed into monocoque structure having a high side member 5 extending in the longitudinal direction at least on one side. A gull wing type door 6 covering the car room part 1b extending to a side sill 4 is hinged to the top edge part of the side member 5. The side member 5 is being formed into a hollow state and a fuel tank 7 is housed in the inside of the front edge part. With this construction, the fuel tank 7 is protected effectively against external force from various directions and preparation of an arrangement space of the fuel tank 7 is not necessitated separately.
