PURPOSE:To manufacture foamed glass having high strength and foamable to an arbitrary form, by slurrying glass powder with water and water glass, pouring the slurry into a mold, baking at a temperature above the softening point of the glass, and slowly cooling the product. CONSTITUTION:Glass powder obtained by the pulverization of glass wth a conventional vibration ball mill, etc. to about <=50mu is slurried with water and water glass. The obtained slurry is poured into a mold, and baked at a temperature above softening point of the glass powder. When the temperature has reached the specified temperature, the powder is maintained at the temperature for about 30min to obtain baked glass powder product. The product is cooled slowly at a constant rate of cooling to normal temperature to obtain a foamed glass product. The obtained foamed glass has high strength and excellent moldability compared with a product obtained by the conventional technique, and consequently, the foamed glass can be used widely as a building material such as heat-insulation material, etc.
