PURPOSE:To decrease the difference between input and output with respect to the forward and backward traveling directions of a medium and to provide extremely good corrosion resistance by maintaining the coercive force in the longitudinal direction of a base with respect to the difference between the max. value and min. value of coercive force at <=0.6 specific value when the coercive force is measured by changing the direction on the plane extended in the longitudinal direction of the base and the normal to the main plane of the base. CONSTITUTION:This invention is most effective in the case when a medium has a magnetic layer of the compsn. consisting essentially of Co and contg. 1-3 kinds among Ni, Cr and O accorlding to need. More specifically, said layer may consist of Co alone or Co and Ni. In the case of Co+Ni, the weight ratio of Co/ Ni is preferably >=1.5. O may be further incorporated therein in addition to Co or Co+Ni. If O is incorporated therein, the more preferable result is obtainable in terms of an electromagnetic conversion characteristic and running durability. The atom ratio of O/Co or O/Co+Ni in such a case is <=0.45, more preferably 0.02-0.3. |
