PURPOSE:A specific filamentous fungus capable of producing cellulase is cultured in an enriched medium containing cellulose and cellulase is collected from the culture mixture whereby cellulase is obtained in high efficiency. CONSTITUTION:A filamentous fungus which is resistant to deoxyfluoro-D-glucose and capable of producing cellulase is cultured in an enriched medium containing cellulose and cellulase is collected from the culture mixture. There are three positions of 2, 3, and 4 for deoxy and fluorine substitutions in the deoxyfluoro-D- glucose and any positions can be selected. For example, 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D- glucose, 3-deoxy-3-fluoro-D-glucose or 4-deoxy-4-fluoro-D-glucose can be used. The filamentous fungus used is derived from the strain capable of cellulose production and, e.g., Sporotrichum cellulophilum ATCC20493 (AJ6987) and Trichoderma reesei ATCC269221 (QM9414) are cited.
