PURPOSE:To obtain a recording and reproducing system without unsightly screen by extracting words, phrases or a sentence having a high frequency of use and recording them into a frame with time axis compression just before a series of video information. CONSTITUTION:An analog audio signal is digitized at an A/D converter 20. This digital signal is written in a buffer memory 21 for compressing time axis in a sampling frequency f1(R). The time axis compression is attained by conducting the read from this memory 21 in a frequency f2(W) higher than the f1(R). A control signal being control information includes an identification code signal or the like identifying each of the words, the phrases or the sentence having a high frequency of uses extracted in advance among audio information. A series of video information signals relating to each other, an SWS data signal subjected to the time axis compression by the buffer memory 21 and a control information signal are inputted respectively to a switching circuit 22. A video format signal to be recorded is obtained from an output of the circuit 22.
