PURPOSE:To produce a flexible propylene polymer which is high in the MW of its boiling diethyl ether-soluble portion and improved in surface tackiness, by using a catalyst comprising an organoaluminum compound and a specified powdered solid catalyst component. CONSTITUTION:A magnesium (or manganese) dihalide (e.g., magnesium chloride) is copulverized with an organohalogen compound (e.g., dichloroethane), and the copulverized product is treated with a normally liquid or liquid hydrocarbon- soluble halogen-containing compound having any one of the bonds of formulas I -III (wherein X is a halogen), e.g., silicon tetrachloride, and a titanium tetrahalide, e.g., titanium tetrachloride. Propylene is polymerized by using a catalyst system comprising the above produced powdered solid catalyst component and an organoaluminum compound, e.g., triethylaluminum.
