PURPOSE:To prepare a sintered type electrode plate high in mechanical strength, free from detachment of an active substance and having long life, by sintering an active substance coating layer based on a reduced metal powder or a metal oxide powder held between opposed porous metal fiber thin plate layers. CONSTITUTION:A porous metal fiber thin plate 1 comprising a metal fiber is bent to a U-shape or a plurality of said thin plates 1 are used to form opposed porous metal fiber thin plate layers 1a and an active substance coating layer 4 based on a reduced metal powder, a metal oxide powder or a powdery mixture thereof is held between the above mentioned thin plate layers 1a to obtain a wafer shaped electrode plate base body which is, in turn, subsequently sintered in an inert gas or reductive gaseous atmosphere to obtain an electrode plate. In this case, the above mentioned porous metal fiber thin plate comprises iron or nickel and, pref. the pore size thereof is within a range of 20-100mum, the thickness thereof is 0.2-1.0mm. and the density thereof is 9-25%. |
