Device for unspooling and spooling materials in tape form, of the type comprising a pay-out spool and a take-up spool, mechanically connected together so that any rotation of one induces a rotation of the other. It comprises a take-up spool 5 and means, such as roller 9, pulley 10, wheels 15, 16 and belt 13, for driving the said spool as a function of the linear run-off (unwinding) speed of the tape. The invention can be used to increase the storage capacity of small, thermal or matrix, printers. <IMAGE>
