Device for measuring the displacement and/or locating the position of a moving member using detection means 10 comprising at least one light source 12 and a photoelectric detector 14 sensitive to the radiation emitted by this light source, in front of which means 10 the said moving member can move, this moving member having successive parts which alternatively allow the light radiation emitted by the said light source to reach the said photoelectric detector and prohibit this, means 16-19 being provided for supplying the said light source 12 with electrical energy periodically so that the latter emits light pulses at a given frequency, the frequency of these pulses being greater than the frequency of passage of the boundaries between the successive parts in front of the said detection means 10 at the maximum speed of the said moving member. <IMAGE>
