PURPOSE:To prepare a conductive vinyl carbazole polymer good in oxidation stability and easy in molding processing, by electrochemically oxidizing a vinyl carbazole polymer. CONSTITUTION:A vinyl carbazole polymer is formed into a film on the surface of an anode and voltage is applied between a cathode and the anode in such a state that both electrodes are immersed in an electrolyte solution. In other method, voltage is applied between the cathode and the anode in such a state that both electrodes are immersed in the electrolyte solution in which the vinyl carbazole polymer is dissolved. By this method, the oxidized vinyl carbazole polymer is formed on the surface of the anode. When electrochemical oxidation is performed as mentioned above, a cation radical is formed in the vinyl carbazole polymer and conductivity is developed.
