The present invention relates to an automatic unhooker comprising a guide device 1 with a slot 10 for guiding the leader 3 which hangs under the main line 2 towards the unhooker. The unhooker in accordance with the invention comprises an element 17 for clearing the hook which is transversal to the guide slot 10, integral in rotation with a shaft 21 perpendicular to the guide slot and situated above the unhooker, the front edge 17 of the clearing element being, at best, substantially coincident with the terminal edge 14 of the lower surface 12 of the guide device, with a means 24 to 33, controlled by the appearance of an increase in the traction force F on the main line in order to cause the said shaft 21 to turn in the direction bringing the said clearing element 17 up-line and upwards. <IMAGE>
