PURPOSE:To provide an operating medium containing n-perfluorooctane as essential ingredient, which has excellent thermal stability, incombustiability and low toxicity and is suitable for use in a closed cycle such as a heat pump cycle. CONSTITUTION:The operating medium contains n-perfluorooctane as essential ingredient and, when necessary, may contain other types of operating media. N-Perfluorooctane has a boiling point of 105 deg.C, a critical temperature of 224 deg.C, a critical pressure of 16.3kg/cm<2> abs and a freezing temperature of -17.5 deg.C and is especially suitable as operating medium to be used at 100-200 deg.C for a long period. It is incombustible, has low toxicity and high cycle efficiency and thermal stability and is not decomposed even under severe conditions of 250-300 deg.C for 30 dyas in the presence of iron, copper, stainless steel or oil. |
