PURPOSE:A resinous optical material excellent in water absorption resistance and moisture absorption resistance, prepared by forming a methyl methacrylate/ fluorine-containing unsaturated compound copolymer into a desired shape. CONSTITUTION:As a fluorine-containing unsaturated compound, there is used a (meth)acrylate of an alcohol having a fluoroalkyl group and/or a fluoroalkylene group, e.g., a compound of the formula (wherein X is H or methyl, and m and n are each 0-18), or a fluorinated styrene, e.g., 3-fluorostyrene. Namely, 70- 99.9wt% methyl methacrylate and/or cyclohexyl methacrylate are reacted with 30-0.1wt% fluorine-containing unsaturated compound in the presence of about 0.01-5wt%, based on monomer, catalyst (e.g., benzoyl peroxide), and the produced copolymer is formed into an optical material (spectacle lens or optical disk).
