PURPOSE:To easily prepare a ferrous magnetic alloy having high density recording and high output characteristics, by coating a needle crystal powder of a metal compound consisting of Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, O and H with a silazane compound while reducing the coated metal compound under heating. CONSTITUTION:A needle crystal powder of a metal compound represented by a general compositional formula FexM1-xOYHz(wherein M is a mixture of one or more of Co, Ni and Cr, x is a positive number of 0.3-1, y is 1-3 and z is 0-3) is coated with a silazane compound such as hexamethylsilazane and the coated metal compound is subjected to reducing treatment under heating in a reductive atmosphere such as hydrogen gas to obtain powdery ferrous alloy magnetic material having high density recording and high output characteristics without lowering magnetic recording characteristics of particles. In this case, the coating of the silazane compound can be easily applied by dispersing a needle crystal powder of the solvent solution containing said silazane compound and the metal compound coated with the silazane compound is pref. baked at 150-700 deg.C prior to reducing treatment under heating. |
