Process for the prevention of acid corrosion on continuous casting plants

The process is operated with spray water cooling in the secondary cooling zone. In order to provide a process which prevents this kind of corrosive attack, independently of the water quality which is available at the flue, and simultaneously does not impair the functioning of the spray apparatus, it is proposed that alkalis and a dispersing agent are added to the spray water in order to achieve finely-disperse lime precipitates, such that blockages in the spray nozzles and their feed ducts are avoided. <IMAGE>
