PURPOSE:To provide an electromagnetic stirrer which prevents intrusion of cooling water into a cylindrical iron core of an electromagnetic stirrer for stirring the unsolidified part of a continuous casting even if cooling water is forcibly circulated by providing coils in the cavities formed of nonmagnetic materials on the inside of a plate which partitiones watertightly said iron core. CONSTITUTION:An iron core 2 enclosing a casting 1 is formed into a cylindrical shape having no slots, and the inside thereof is covered with a partition plate 10 of a nonmagnetic material and is welded watertightly to keep plates 5 of the iron core. Opening sides of plural, for example, L-shaped materials 11 of a nonmagnetic material are disposed on the inside of the plate 10 and a cylindrical supporting plate 12 is welded to the inside thereof to fix and bind the materials and the plate, thereby forming cavities between the materials 11 and the plates 10 and 12. Coils 3 are inserted into these cavities, and are fixed by using wedges 13 of a trapezoidal insulator having excellent water resistance. Then the entry of cooling water to the core 2 is obviated and the core withstands long-term use even if the cooling water is forced through a water feed port 8 into the inside part 20 of the hermetic vessel formed of a stationary frame 4, a jacket 6 and an end cover 7. |
