METHOD AND DEVICE FOR HEATING MOLTEN METAL CHARGING NOZZLE

PURPOSE:To reduce heating time and to heat thoroughly the inside surface of a charging nozzle in a method for heating the charging nozzle by means of a burner in a vessel by feeding high-temp. gas from the inside of the nozzle to the vessel and discharging the same to the outside of the vessel by an evacuating device. CONSTITUTION:The greater part (or the entire part) of a nozzle 1 is axially inserted into a heating vessel 2 having refractories 11 on the inside surface from the top of the vessel. The space between the holding fitting 13 of the nozzle and the vessel 2 is shielded by the refractories 11. A means for feeding high-temp. gas 12 which is a heat insulating cover 14 enclosing a heating burner 3, having a high-temp. gas passage in the bottom and having the inside surface covered with the refractories is provided above the nozzle 1. An evacuating device 4 is mounted on the wall of the vessel 2. When the device 4 is moved simultaneously with starting of heating the nozzle 1 with the burner 3, the gas passes through the inside of the nozzle 1 while heating the same and is discharged through a lower opening 21 to the inside of the vessel 2. The inside of the vessel 2 is maintained under the negative pressure by the device 4 and the gas 12 is discharged by the device 4 to the outside of the vessel 2.
