The bathing water to be treated is passed via an inlet line (1) into a first aeration chamber (4) and there aerated with fresh air in fine bubbles. Before the introduction, CO2 is added to the fresh air via a line (17). After the first aeration, the bathing water passes into a first reaction chamber (7) which contains a bed (10) of coarse-grained activated charcoal enriched with urea-degrading bacteria. In the upper region of the bed (10), chlorine and chloramines are degraded, and in the lower region, urea and ammonium are degraded by the bacteria. The partially treated water is again aerated with fresh air and CO2 in a second aeration chamber (6). The residual urea and the residual ammonium are almost completely degraded in a second reaction chamber (8). In this treatment, the sodium nitrite content of the water is also substantially reduced.

|
