The invention relates to a switch, and especially an emergency calling switch, which, with the same components, is intended to be capable of use both as a latching switch and as an inching switch. In conventional embodiments, this comprises two completely different switch types. In the case of the invention, this is achieved in that the locking device and the operating element can be moved into a first arrangement position relative to one another, in which the resetting of the operating element caused by the intrinsic spring restoring force can be blocked (latching switch), and in that the locking device and the operating element can be moved into a second arrangement position relative to one another, in which automatic resetting of the operating element takes place without being hindered by the locking element (inching switch).
