Maize chopper having a friction floor

The diagrammatically illustrated cutting unit of a drum-type chopper for silo maize harvesting has a chopping drum 3 which is driven to rotate in a housing 1 and the cutters 2 of which cooperate with a countercutter 4 fixed to the housing. For a fine comminution of the maize grains supplied, a friction floor 7 consisting of a plurality of identical parts 7', 7'' and 7''' is arranged in the chopper housing. The friction-floor parts 7', 7'' and 7''' are interchangeable in their installed position and can also be installed rotated through 180 DEG . It is thereby possible to bring the friction-floor parts which are at the front in the conveying direction of the stream of material to be chopped and which are subject to high wear into a position not impairing the comminuting work and to replace them with friction-floor parts which are not yet worn. <IMAGE>
