An apparatus for classifying supplied products, for example fruit, in groups having, if possible, the same weight possesses a plurality of balance pans (27) which are substantially larger than the number of products in the group, and each balance pan is assigned a weighing cell (29) connected to a computer which can select the balance pans in which the total weight of the products contained therein comes nearest to the desired weight. Because the balance pans are each assigned to a respective product-conveying track and computer-controlled automatic transfer members (20, 38, 42) are provided for transferring selected products from the balance pans on to an exit conveyor (44) and for transferring new products into the balance pans thus emptied, this ensures that the entire apparatus can work fully automatically at high speed. Various measures have been taken to prevent the products from being exposed to violent movements and jolts. <IMAGE>
