NEW MATERIAL:A carbamate derivative of formula I (X is 5-indanyl, 5, 6, 7, 8- tetrahydro-2-naphthyl, 1,4-methano-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6-naphthyl, phenyl bearing lower alkyls; Y is O, S; R1 is lower alkyl or 2 or more carbon atoms; R2 is H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy). EXAMPLE:5,6,7,8-Tetrahydro-2-naphthyl N-ethyl-N-( 6-methoxy-2-pyridyl )carbamate. USE:Herbicide: it shows excellent herbicidal effect against various kinds of weeds including barnyard grass, causing n injury to transplanted rice, soybean and other crops. PREPARATION:The reaction of a phenol derivative of formula II (A is H, halocarbonyl, halothicarbonyl) with an aminopyridine derivative of formula III (B is halocarbonyl, halothiocarbonyl, when A is H, or H, when A is other than H) furnishes the compound of formula I .
