The invention relates to a device for transporting a correction ribbon in typewriters, wherein the diameter of the winding spool can be sensed by means of a feeler and compensation of the ribbon transporting step is effected by means of a control lever. A support axle on the control lever is extended by means of the feeler in the case of an increasing diameter of the coil on the winding spool, as a result of which the effective lever arm for the swivel movement of the transport bridge is gradually extended. This extension brings about a reduction of the swivel movement of the transport bridge and thus a reduction of the angle of rotation of the gearwheel. The transporting step for the correction ribbon is divided into two equal partial steps.
