PURPOSE:To provide a surface modifier for powdered or particulate inorg. materials, which can improve wettability by and dispersibility in org. mediums, containing a specified acidic amino acid derivative. CONSTITUTION:A surface modifier for inorg. materials contains an acidic amino derivative of formula I (wherein X, Y are the same or different groups and each is H, -CH3, -C2H5, -CH2CH2OH ; R is a 6-18 C branched or straight-chain alkyl, alkylene ; n is 1, 2) obtd. e.g., by reacting one mol of an acidic amino acid or its N-substituted compd. with at least 2mol of a 6-18C higher alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst. Said modifier is used in a quantity of 0.1-20wt% based on that of an inorg. filler to be used. The inorg. material is treated, e.g., by adding the modifier as such to the inorg. material and conducting the treatment in a mixer, or by mixing the modifier and the inorg. material in an org. solvent by stirring and removing the solvent by filtration or evaporation.
