PURPOSE:To compensate the thermal lens effect of a laser rod, and to form the optimum constitution of a resonator within the whole excited input range by arranging a substance having a symbol reverse to the symbol of the temperature coefficient of the refractive index of a substance constituting the laser rod in the resonator. CONSTITUTION:A continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser has a laser rod 1 constituted by a YAG crystal containing approximately 1atom% Nd, a krypton arc lamp 2, and reflecting mirrors 5, 6, etc. for constituting an optical resonator, and a rod 7 constituted by fluorophosphoric glass to which 2wt% Nd is added is arranged on the extension of the YAG laser rod 1. The thermal lens effect (equivalently, a thick convex lens) of the laser rod 1 is compensated by the thermal lens effect (equivalently, a thick concave lens) of the glass element 7 within the whole input range, and excellent output characteristics are obtained. |
