NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic SF-2238 having following physical and chemical properties: elementary analyses in %; C 51.68, H 6.80, 0.41.31; molecular weight; 1269(M+1)<+> as the molecular ion peak m/z according to the secondary ion mass spectroscopy; specific optical rotatory power [alpha]D<25>=+19.6 (c=0.5 in methanol); coloring reactions, positive to Lemieux, sulfuric acid and iodine reactions, negative to ninhydrin and Sakaguchi reactions; solubility, soluble in water, methanol, hard soluble in ethyl acetate, chloroform and benzene; appearance, white crystalline powder; melting point, begins melting near 193 deg.C and decomposes liberating foams near 203 deg.C. USE:Antibacterial against gram-negative and -positive bacteria. PREPARATION:A strain in Dactylosporangium, such as Dactylosporangium sp. SF-2238 (FERM-6875) is cultured aerobically at 28-32 deg.C for 3-10 days.
