PURPOSE:To improve the performance of a storage battery by packing a larger amount of an active material into each of negative plates located in the ends of a plate group thereby burdening these negative plates with both gas-absorbing reaction and electric discharge. CONSTITUTION:Only negative plates 2' located in the ends of a plate group 1 have larger thickness than the other negative plates 2 interposed between positive plates 4, so that the negative plates 2' can hold a larger amount of an active material than the negative plates 2. Therefore, the negative plates 2' have a sufficient ability of absorbing oxygen gas produced from the positive plates 4 and causing electric discharge. As a result, any sulfation which might be generated during long-term use is prevented, the performance of the storage battery is greatly improved and the life of the storage battery can be extended. |
