PURPOSE:To manufacture a compact flash discharge lamp and simplify production process and then reduce production cost by holding an electrode member consisting of a glass tube and a dish-type metal cap in the recess of a heater and depositing the end of the glass tube to the metal cap using the heater. CONSTITUTION:A recess 19 is provided in a heater 18 and the metal cap 32 of an anode member 34 or the metal cap 35 of a cathode member 38 is held in this recess 19. The glass tube 39 is vertically held and the end of the glass tube 39 is heated and melted using the heater 18 in this state. Then a sealing section is formed by airtightly depositing the metal cap 32 of the anode member 34 or the metal cap 35 of the cathode member 38 to the end. Since work is exceedingly simple and the sealing section can be formed in a short time, mass production is enabled. In addition, when the same arc length is obtained, the full length L can sharply be reduced, as compared with the conventional manufacturing method. |
