PURPOSE:To obtain a molded composite glass body having superior water-proof and heat insulating effects as well as high strength and heat resistance by filling an expanded cellular vitreous body into the intergranular gaps in an aggregate of expanded natural vitreous granules and by uniting them to one body by melt bonding. CONSTITUTION:Expanded natural vitreous granules of a mineral such as obsidian, ''Shirasu'' (volcanic glass) or perlite is filled into a molding frame, and a prescribed amount of a mixture of synthetic glass such as soda lime glass or borosilicate glass with an expanding agent such as calcium carbonate, dolomite or carbon is added to the gaps among the expanded granules. The mixture is then expanded by heating to obtain a molded composite glass body consisting of an aggregate of expanded natural vitreous granules 2 and an expanded cellular vitreous body 1 filled into the intergranular gaps in the aggregate.
