PURPOSE:To make it possible to use and store wide band wavelength solar energy for a prolonged period of time by a method wherein in the case of the solar energy utilizing device, the rays of the sun are applied on a highly strainable chemical compound in a vessel to thereby collect solar heat energy. CONSTITUTION:A sunlight transmissive window 14 is formed at a part in the sealed vessel 10 and the rays of the sun are applied on the highly strainable chemical compound as an optical energy storing chemical compound within the vessel 10 to thereby convert the chemical compound into a highly strained chemical compound. The highly strained chemical compound is then discharged outside through an injection and discharge pipe 18 and a valve 20 communicating with a housing chamber so as to react against a catalyst outside to thereby enable the resultant heat to be discharged. For the highly strainable chemical compound, norbornagene (N) having fluidity at normal temperature is used, for example.
