PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of a thin film magnetic head and at the same time to increase the number of turns of a signal conductor, by forming the signal conductor with plural spiral turns and then putting a level difference buffer member such as a bias conductor, a signal conductor, a nonmagnetic material, etc. between said signal conductor and a nonmagnetic thin film. CONSTITUTION:A spiral signal conductor 4 and a magnetic thin film 3 are formed on a magnetic substrate 1 via an insulated film 2, and a working magnetic gap (g) is formed centering on the film 2 and between the substrate 1 and the film 3. In such a constitution of thin film magnetic head, the spiral conductor 4 has a double layer structure. This increases the number of turns of the conductor 4, reduces the recording current and improves the reproduction output. With such a conductor 4, a sharp difference of levels is produced on the surface of the conductor 4 owing to a mask matching error generated when a signal conductor 4b of the 2nd layer is formed. This level difference can be reduced by coating a bias conductor 12 on the conductor 4b. Thus the film 3 is flattened to improve the magnetic characteristics. |
