PURPOSE:To manufacture easily the titled fiber having a waved outside by introducing a precoated optical fiber and glass fibers into a cross head, forming an FRP coating layer with polyester resin, and passing the resulting fiber through a waving device. CONSTITUTION:A precoated optical fiber 5 and glass fibers 7 are sent from bobbins 4, 6, respectively, and they are introduced into a cross head 8 filled with molten polyester resin. When the fibers 5, 7 are passed through the head 8, they are coated with the polyester resin to form an FRP coated optical fiber 10. Before the polyester resin of the fiber 10 is solidified, the fiber 10 is passed through a waving device 9 placed just behind the head 8 to wave spirally the outside of the FRP coating layer to a prescribed depth at prescribed pitches in the longitudinal direction. Thus, a flexible FRP coated optical fiber 11 is manufactured.
