PURPOSE:To carry out stable temperature control under a low running cost, by a method wherein an additional step is used only when it is under an abnormal state wherein a temperature is gotten out of a control range of the temperature suddenly while normal operation of an air conditioner is made to carry out by a high capacity step. CONSTITUTION:When solenoid valves 22A, 22B ar made to open and hot gas bypass circuits 21A, 21B are made to act at the time of cooling operation, cooling capacity is deteriorated. An additional step is formed by setting up a degree of the deterioration so that it becomes adjusting capacity corresponding to an intermediate value of a standard capacity. To perform multistep capacity control consisting of a standard step and the additional step, a controller is formed of a temperature adjusting device 2 consisting of a temperature element detecting an air temperature of the inside of an air duct and a thermostat and a sequence 6 consisting of a timer circuit 3, a load deciding device 4 and a capacity control device 5.
