PURPOSE:To realize a picture enlarging and contracting method to obtain an enlarged or contracted picture with good picture quality by utilizing the property of a character font to apply different density calculation methods in lateral and longitudinal directions, respectively. CONSTITUTION:Picture information read by a scanner or the like and digitized is stored in a picture memory 31. A converting picture coordinate generating section 33 generates sequentially coordinates (k,l)=(1,1),(2,1)-, (k,1),(1,2)-(k,2)-, (k,l). Then, an original picture coordinate generating section 34 calculates i= [(k-1)/alpha]+1, j=[(l-1)/beta]+1 based on magnifications alpha, beta in longitudinal and lateral directions and converting picture coordinates k, l and generates (i,j) and (i,j+1) and (i+1,j) and (i+1,j+1) by prescribed conditions. Finally, (i,j) or the like is read and D(k,l) is obtained by OR operation at an interpolating section 35. The converted picture is obtained by repeating this procedure for (k,l). |
