PURPOSE:To facilitate insertion of a plate group by achieving an almost equalized slit width by forming plate insertion slits on a strap by press punching, then pressing parts of the strap located on both sides of each slit from the upper and the lower sides. CONSTITUTION:In an alkaline storage battery, positive and negative plates 1 and 2 are stacked with separators 4 interposed. The plate group, after being welded to a strap 9 attached to an electrode pole 3, is inserted into a container 7 before a lid is fixed. The strap 9 has plate-insertion slits 10 formed by press punching. Next, upper and lower grooves 11 are formed on both sides of each slit 10 so as to expand the width of the strap 9 and narrow the width of the slit 10. The width of the slit 10 can be adjusted desirably by controlling the pressing pressure used for the pressing process. By the means mentioned above, an almost equalized slit width can be achieved and insertion of the plate group can be facilitated. |
