PURPOSE:To provide an ink jet recorder in which electric discharge between deflecting electrodes is prevented from occurring when a power source is turned OFF, by a method wherein discharge time constants of a plurality of deflecting electrodes are made to be approximately equal to each other, in a deflecting mechanism for deflecting electrically charged ink droplets by a plurality of deflecting electrodes. CONSTITUTION:An ink (a) jetted from a head 1 is electrically charged by a charging electrode 2, and is deflected by the deflecting electrodes 4a, 4b maintained at different potentials, so that the flight distance ZHP of the ink is small. Since a detecting resistor Rs for a controlling circuit 11 is inserted on the side of the electrode 4a, the discharge time contants of the electrodes 4a, 4b are largedly different from each other. When the discharge time constants of the electrodes 4a, 4b are made to be approximately equal to each other by inserting a compensating resistor R on the side of the electrode 4b, no spark is generated between the deflecting electrodes 4a, 4b.
