PURPOSE:To obtain a herbicide for foliar treatment, containing N-cinnamyloxyphenyl-N'-methylurea derivative as an active component, and exhibiting strong herbicidal activity and broad herbicidal spectrum against the weeds in plowed fields, especially against broad-leaved weeds by the treatment after sprouting. CONSTITUTION:The objective herbicide contains the compound of formula I (R<1>- R<3> are H or methy; X<1> and X<2> are H, halogen or lower alkyl; R<4> is H, methyl or methxoxy, e.g. 1(p-cinnamyloxyphenyl)-3,3-dimethylurea, as an active component. The compound exhibits strong herbicidal activity to broad-leaved weeds at a low concentration, and gives low phytoxocity to principal crops especially wheat. It is applied at a rate of preferably 0.5-5kg of the active component per ha to attain sufficient herbicidal effect. The compound of formula II can be prepared by reacting the N-hydroxyphenyl-N'-methylurea derivative of formula IIwith the cinnamyl halide derivative of formula III (Y is Cl or Br).
