PURPOSE:To automate surely and thoroughly coiling of a quickly cooled light- gauge strip in a high temp. state by capturing and guiding the front end of the high temp. light-gauge strip entering this device by means of a sheet which is being wound on a coiling drum. CONSTITUTION:A kraft sheet 3 atop a coiling drum 2 under rotation is attached toward the drum 2 surface by the air flow around the drum and is kept stopped by a sheet stopper 5. When a quickly cooled light-gauge strip 20 of a high temp. advances 30 and passes through a front end detector 22, the stopper 5 is opened and the sheet 3 advances while said sheet is wound on the drum 2 until the sheet captures the front end of the strip 20 and winds the same onto the drum 2. The sheet bar mechanism moves when the coiling is started. The sheet 3 is preferably kraft paper which is expanded immediately by combustion and the length thereof is suitably about 5 times the circumferential length of the drum 2. The front end of the strip 20 is thus surely captured and the coiling operation is thoroughly automated.
