The present invention relates to fluid-substance applicator with adjustable drying, comprising a container 1, a plug 7 carrying an application means 9 which is immersed in the substance and a drying device placed closed to the opening of the container 1, comprising a conduit, the cross-section of which can vary so as to regulate the quantity of substance deposited on the application means 9. According to the invention, in order to vary the section of the conduit, there are provided a fixed dryer 11 made from flexible material, means 18 for laterally gripping the said dryer 11, which means can move with respect to a fixed articulation, so as rigidly to grip around the dryer 11 in a plane perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, and means 21 for actuating the said lateral gripping means 18. Application especially to the manufacture of an article of make-up and more particularly of mascara applicators. <IMAGE>
