PURPOSE:To obtain titled composition with improved productivity and stress cracking resistance, by mixing polyphenylene ether and a styrene polymer in a specific ratio followed by further mixing the same styrene polymer with the mixture resulting from a polymer separation. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition can be obtained by mixing in a solution state following dissolving in a solvent (A) 60-95wt% of a polyphenylene ether and (B) 40-5wt% of an aromatic vinyl polymer (styrene polymer) followed by further mixing the component (A) and/or component (B) with the mixture resulting from a polymer separation. The component (A) can be prepared by the oxidation coupling polymerization of a compound of formula (X is H, Cl, Br, etc.; R is monovalent substituent, e.g., hydrocarbon, such halo-hydrocarbon as to have >=2C between the halogen atom and phenol nucleus; R' is halogen or the same as R; R'' and R''' are each H or the same as R'; R-R''' are each free from tertiary carbon atom).
