RACK SHAFT SUPPORTING STRUCTURE FOR RACK AND PINION STEERING GEAR

PURPOSE:To reduce frictional resistance between a bush and rack shaft by projecting a plurality of flexible rack shaft supporting sections inwardly in radial direction from the innercircumferential face of a rack bush provided between the rack shaft and rack shaft supporter. CONSTITUTION:A synthetic resin rack bush 2 is constituted of a bush body 12 contacting with a rack tube 3 over the entire circumference and a rack shaft 1 supporter 13 projecting inwardly in radial direction from the bush body 12. A stopper 5 is formed on the outercircumference of the bush body 12 to engage the stopper 5 with an engaging hole 4 of the rack tube 3 thus to position the bush 2. A gap 14 is formed between the rack supporter 13 and the bush body 12 to provide proper flexibility to the rack supporter 13 by means of the gap 14 and the material of the bush 2. Furthermore a path 6 communicating between the opposite ends of the bush 2 is formed between adjoining rack shaft supporters 13.
