Insulating space below ground floor - by insulation material on bottom below floor and against side walls of space, possibly in foil

The arrangement is intended for heat-insulating an underfloor (1) space (2) below ground floor level. Insulation material (12) is placed as a layer on the bottom (3) below the floor (1) and against the side walls (4) of the space. This may be granular (13) material, e.g. polystyrene. The material may be banked-up in a slope against the side walls (as shown) or placed in spaced defined by vertical boards adjacent to these walls. The material may, alternatively, be contained in bags, possibly filled in situ, or may be made into elements consisting of (e.g. polythene) foil envelopes contg. polystyrene, mineral wool or glass wool, possibly filled under vacuum or pre-compressed before placing in the space.
