A shifting mechanism for selecting the speeds or engagement slots in gearboxes, in particular in synchronised gear boxes for road vehicles, is proposed. The mechanism includes a fixing device (2), which can fix a gear-shifting shaft (4) in three positions. The fixing device (2) has a piston (30), on which a pin (5) is fastened. The latter can engage in grooves (6, 11, 12) of the gear-shifting shaft (4). An electronic control unit (3) serves for controlling the fixing device (2) and a working cylinder (1) for driving the gear-shifting shaft (4). <IMAGE>
