A joint for the pivotable connection of lightweight tubes, in particular in the case of market and terrace umbrellas, comprises a holding part having two suspension clips, which are spaced apart from each other and are provided with transverse holes, as well as a joint leg, which is provided on the respective end of the tube and is mounted between the suspension clips. In order to give the joint better stability, the joint leg together with a formed-on holding end, which is inserted into the respective end of the tube, is formed by two plastic half-shells, a steel plate being inserted between the two half-shells as a reinforcing insert which extends through the joint leg and the holding end. The suspension clips may also be seated on a corresponding holding part which comprises plastic half-shells into which a steel reinforcing tube is inserted. Tube ends may be fitted onto the extension ends of the holding part to which the reinforcing tube extends.
